Wimmer Solutions Presents New Year’s at the Needle
Fireworks Show to Light Up the Seattle Sky
SEATTLE –For the 18th consecutive year Seattle will celebrate the arrival of 2012 with one of the world’s largest structure-launched fireworks displays as “Wimmer Solutions Presents New Year’s at the Needle.” This year’s show, which comes as the Space Needle prepares to make space travel a reality for a private citizen as part of its 50th anniversary celebration Space Race 2012, will be inspired both in design and song by the excitement of space travel.
Calling upon its roots as symbol of the original space race, the Space Needle’s eight minute musically-choreographed fireworks display will feature classic tunes from “E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial,” “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and other movie favorites. It will also provide inspiration for the 1,000 people around the country who have moved on to the second phase of Space Race 2012 and will be creating videos highlighting why they should win a sub-orbital space flight.
Similar to year’s past, more than 20,000 people are expected to gather at the base of the Needle, rain or shine, and an estimated 400,000 people will be able to view the show from surrounding neighborhoods as fireworks light up the Seattle sky just before midnight on Saturday, December 31.
The “Wimmer Solutions Presents New Year’s at the Needle” fireworks display promises to be the most dynamic show ever produced for the Space Needle with thousands of pyrotechnic effects being fired from the structure’s legs, SkyLine Level, 200’ platform, Halo and the rooftop of the 605’ icon.

Coordinated by experts at 100-year-old Pyro Spectaculars and pyrotechnics designer Alberto
Navarro, the wildly colorful fireworks display will be broadcast live on KING-TV from
11:35 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. and the music will be broadcast live on STAR 101.5 FM.
The Space Needle has hosted “New Year’s at the Needle” since 1985 and a musically-enhanced fireworks show since 1994.
